Coming out of Southern California, Pilot Touhill’s newest release Paper Armour is their third album. With a mellow sound and fun and catchy tunes, it is obvious that their sunny location influences the music. The positive and up beat atmosphere is contagious and is sure to make this album a smash hit with listeners.
The song “Kaleidoscope” is fun from the opening note with its festive atmosphere. It is the perfect example of the laid-back attitude that pervades throughout the album. I love the beat and how the lyrics flow with the music. It is a highly infectious song that you will want to hear over and over until you learn all the lyrics.
“Wasteland” has my favorite beat on the album. Also, the tone is different from what the previous songs offer. The lyrical content takes a darker and more somber tone. The lyrics can be slightly depressing as they chronicle a story of urban decay and an impoverished neighborhood. This socially conscious track is even more relatable in this time of economic downturn. It shows off the emotional and lyrical range that the band is capable of by having a serious side amidst all the fun and partying.
Pilot Touhill’s brand of laid-back mellow styling is a pleasure to listen to. It is the type of music to play when you want to have a good time. As the days grow longer, Pilot Touhill’s Paper Armour is what you need to keep that summertime feel going all year round.
Key Tracks: Kaleidoscope, Wasteland, Good Morning
