House Of Lords is a melodic rock band that has been releasing music since the late 1980’s and will soon release their new album, Big Money.
“Seven,” is probably the most rockin’ song on this disc and it brings back a bit of the eighties rock feel. It is about meeting a wild girl named, “Seven,” and becoming almost addicted to her. The sound that accompanies these lyrics is played in an almost seductive fashion. The pounding drums and loud crystal clear vocals really make this song stand out among the rest. The best part of the song though is that the drums don’t seem to rest. A fast, restless tempo is present throughout the song not only on the drums, but on all other instruments as well throughout the entire duration of the song.
The title track, “Big Money,” is a salute to money and all it can bring you. The song does a good job at blending the Eighties rock sound with a more modern rock feel. Within this sound is a beat with stomp to it in the best way possible that really coincides well with the lyrics. The guitar sound is dead on and has a tightness that cannot be faked, especially when the vocals cutout at times and the guitar featured more.
The album even features a good sappy love ballad. “The Next Time I Hold You,” is about losing the love of your life to death. The lyrics, “The next time I hold you, gonna hold you forever,” really conveys the feelings that the songwriter truly loves this person and would give anything to be with them again. A piano can be heard as well that is played in a fashion that is so serious, that no one could listen to it and not automatically feel the sadness but also the love that still exists here. The piano leads into the lyrics and other instruments as well setting the tone early. I think this is an example of well-planned music at its finest.
Big Money is set to be released soon by House of Lords who have been rocking for over twenty years now. They still manage to put out great albums after all these years. Their blend of 80s rock and modern rock along with raw talent and passion for music make this album something great. If this is how good this band sounds after all these years, let’s all hope they never stop rocking.
