Go to Gothenberg, Sweden and you may find the School of Rock down one of the back alleys or pubs. This is courtesy of Crusher Records and their stable of old school rock/garage rock/punk artists that play for the love of doing so and the end result is always good music. Everything I have heard so far from the label has been great.
What makes it more fun and a good listen is that I get to hear it all on collectable 7” vinyl. Those of you immersed in the digital age take heed, or take five I should say, stop and listen to some of these bands on vinyl. It will knock your socks off and possibly a few other things if you give it a chance.
Troubled Horse is the name and rockin’ is their game on their 7” record. Side A comes at you hard and fast with “Bring My Horses Home.” It is rock music played at full volume. The song features vintage rock with elements of psych and garage mixed in. It is the perfect rock song with everything that you want; pounding primal drum beats, thumping powerful bass and big guitar chords that slice through you like a machete through a loaf of bread- it’s definitely turn up the volume time. Side B features “Shirleen” which already sounds like a song right out the 60’s right? Well wait it gets better, the song keep the momentum going that side A brought you and it never takes the foot of the gas. I think for two songs to get your attention in such a creative manner makes a statement.
They do it with the format and cover art to catch your eyes first then proceed to totally enrapture you with wall to wall sound; it’s all here in the vinyl grooves. Once you drop that needle on the record its rock paradise man!
Thanks to Martin Heppich (vocals, guitar), John Hoyles (guitar), Ola Henriksson (bass) and
Jens Henriksson (drums) for keeping the heart and soul of rock ‘n’ roll as it was meant to be played alive on this record. If this is an appetizer I am all ready to consume a full course meal!
