Sixx A.M. is the side project formed by Nikki Six of Motley Crue. Also in the group are DJ Ashba and James Michael. The trio has just released their second full length studio album This is Gonna Hurt.
The group seems to be able to do no wrong on this album, especially with the spectacularly dark track, “Goodbye My Friends.” The song starts with a nice, slow piano solo then launches into something that can only be deemed truly epic and worthy of being played in moments where things come to a dramatic end.
“Lies Of The Beautiful People” preaches disbelief with the straightforward lyrics, “Save yourself from all the lies of the beautiful people.” The song keeps up with the high standards set by the rest of the album and all elements are on par with one another making another marvelous song.
The album’s dark rock feel is carried into “Deadlihood” quite well. The song is about someone bringing you down and being your “deadlihood,” the type of person that will make your star burn out quickly as they do in Hollywood. The instrumentation on this song is dead on.
Nikki Sixx could not have done any better with Sixx A.M’s lineup and sound. This Is Gonna Hurt is the band’s triumphant second album that is the complete opposite of a sophomore slump and shows their star will not burn out anytime soon. Every element is at the same high level throughout the album keeping with a nice consistency of high expectations.
