Hailing from the icy region of Scandinavia, Swedish hard rockers Crashdiet is back with their third album Generation Wild. Their third album is also marked by the band’s third lead singer. The change in lead vocals every album might be a problem for most bands, but not for Crashdiet. They put together a must have album full of energy, passion, and the sweet sounds of youthful rebellion and attitude. This attitude is evident from the opening track “442.” This is less of a song and more of the prelude to the rest of the album. It builds up energy and tension like a riot is about to break out. It would be a good idea to put down anything you might happen to be holding to resist the urge to break or smash anything.
The pent-up energy is released with “Armageddon.” When the lead singer screams “This is like Armageddon,” it is hard not to scream along. The vocals are seductive, tempting the listener to continue this wild ride of an album. “So Alive” keeps the energy level high with a pounding opening and catchy lyrics. It is a great anthem song for the youthful spirits out there. Not to be out done, the title track “Generation Wild” keeps the energy up with great lyrics to go along with the previous song.
The pulse pounding ride continues with “Rebel.” This song makes me wish I had long hair so that I could head bang along with it. It shares the similar mood of “442” about creating the urge to break stuff. The tempo is switched up slightly with the heart felt ballad “Save Her,” which is accompanied by some dark imagery. This is followed up by “Down with the Dust,” which is another great song with a chest pounding opening.
The good times continue to role with “Native Nature.” It starts off slow, but then the song explodes all over your ears. A metal album would not be complete without a tribute to a “feel good chemical” that is sweetened by its melodic opening. I definitely want “another hit” of this song. The album closes with “Bound to Fall” and “Beautiful Pain.” The former is another energetic call to action song and the latter is a beautiful end to a beautiful album.
Generation Wild is an all around excellent album. There is not a wasted moment on it. Crashdiet proves their greatness with this stellar addition to their discography, despite the change in line-up. They produce consistent hit after hit on Generation Wild. This is a must have album for any rock fan and it is sure to please.
