The Emergency is attempting to “make the music of tomorrow you imagined in a hazy childhood daydream. By combining disco beats, shimmering synthesizers and dubbed out vocal effects they weave a web of heavy cosmic pop that avoids sounding quota ional or disposable.” (Myspace) They’ve done just that with the release of Dreams Money Can Buy.
Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, The Emergency (Milo (vox/keys) and Morgan McWaters (keys/machines)) creates ambient dance music that would work well in dance clubs elevator. The beats are simple, repetitive and way too slow. Yes it does shimmer but it doesn’t soar, as dance music should. Quota ional, not at all. Disposable, very much so.
The single for Dreams Money Can Buy, “Fantasy” is however a remarkably catchy song. The opening bass riff tickles the senses and brings you in. The song continues on it’s mystic voyage via diesel powered space ship. While on your cosmic journey, traveling at half the speed of light, you suddenly crash back down to earth, feeling unsatisfied. All in all I don’t think this is going to be the next big thing but if you like house music check this legendary Duo out, this is their 11th Album since 2003.
Dreams Money Can Buy might fill that hole in your collection.
