Garth Adam - GlueOctober 3rd, 2009
Glue heralds Garth Adam’s fifth release as a solo musician. A career that began in late 2002, the four track EP is founded in melodic pop rock tunes. The effort marks a departure from Adam’s folk pop leanings to a more electric sound provided mostly by the inclusion of a Gretsch Guitar. The entire EP was recorded at Linear Recording in Sydney and produced by Melvin Tree who also provides the recording with a remix of “Get This Right.”
The title track “Glue” is hampered by Adam’s overly nasal vocals and fails to make an impact, but is rescued by its strumming guitar influences and charming background vocals. “Get This Right” on the other hand, finds its groove and sticks to it with Adam pleading to “get this right” accompanied by dominant guitar riffs and strong lyrics.
“The Boat” is a gem with its relaxed pace and catchy chorus which provides a brilliant juxtaposition to the lyrical content of the song. Here, Adam’s truly displays his potential, not only as a songwriter but as a skilled and talented musician.
“Get This Right(Melvin Tree Re-mix)” strips the original track of background influences and lets Adam’s vocals clearly transmit his message to the listener, with a single guitar accompanying his somber lyrics. Overall, Glue serves as a varied introduction to future efforts by Adams, who will hopefully include more tracks like “The Boat” on a full length release, while continuing to hone his craft both vocally and musically.
