Advanced Physics is Aldubb’s newest album. Aldubb is the highest demand dub re-mixer in Germany. He has mastered his own sound at the Planet Earth Studios in Berlin. This is where he records, mixes, and produces his signature sound of vintage equipment combined with the latest digital technology.
This album has the traditional dub sound. He emphasizes the drum and bass frequencies and mixes in the reverb and echo effects throughout. The twist comes with the album’s theme; you can hear a guy ramble on about science as Aldubb samples Science and Physics theories and mixes it with the songs. It adds a unique layer to it all and it makes you think. At the same time you will want to get up and move. If only physics class was this fun.
At first I was suspect of the background physics talk, but it doesn’t overpower the music. The album has a nice range of slow to mid tempo and flat out dance tracks. The middle of the album is the strongest and it actually has the less amount of background science verbiage. Tracks that stood out were “Time’s Arrow”, “If I Were A Lightray”, “A Strange Quark”, “M10”, and “Quasars in Love”.
This is my first listen to any dub music and you can definitely hear the reggae elements in it. I was really surprised with how much I enjoyed listening to this. I have not a clue what to compare this to, but it definitely has me interested in the dub scene and sub-genres of reggae.
