Miike Snow is not a guy, and, yes, it has two “i”’s, so please take note for future “googling”. Miike Snow is actually a trio made up of American singer Andrew Wyatt, and Swedish producers Chris Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg. The latter pair produces under the name Bloodshy & Avant, and their resume includes songs for Madonna, Kylie Minogue, and, most impressively, Britney Spears’ “Toxic” (which you know, and love, so stop pretending).
Over 11 tracks, Miike Snow are generally poppy and infectious. There is no better example of this than on “Animal”, the album opener that provides a bouncy island beat. You will be hard-pressed to find a better indie, summer jam this year.
While the rest of the album generally lacks the summery sound found on “Animal”, there is no reason to stop dancing. You’ll also find it hard not sing along either. I highly doubt that any of us has ever thought we would be singing “Don’t forget to cry at your own burial.”, but Miike Snow has the ability to find a way to cause this reaction on “Burial”.
Still, as this album goes on, it gets harder to discern the differences in some of these songs if you’re really focusing on it. If you’re at a party and it’s in the background you won’t tire of it, but the latter half can start to blend together a bit. I did find that it sounded great for driving at night though. Flying down the highway in the dark, lights zipping by, or partying late night in the summer heat, that’s what Miike Snow is for.
